Stomach inflammation
Jul 28, 2010 at 9:46 AM

My 2 year old, who got a g-tube at 11 months, totally quit eating around 10 months. We have ran several trying to figure out why she will not eat & has no desire to eat. GI has done an endoscopy to check anatomy, gastric emptying study, check for bacterias & infections in blood, stool, stomach, & intestines, and biopsies of esophagus, stomach & intestines. Everything has came back normal except for her stomach biopsy, it shows a significant amount of inflammation but no infection was found.  GI has increased her prevacid to twice a day in hopes that this will get the inflammation under control & she will start eating again. Just wondering if any other CFer's have ever heard of this being an issue or ever experienced this problem.

I actually have the same problem with my son, Brady, who is 21 months old. He has almost NO appetite whatsoever, and he's schedule to get a G-tube on August 16 (thank goodness). He has a lot of aversions to textures, so he's never eaten much food to begin with...just applesauce, yogurt, & mashed bananas for "solid" food, and he drinks whole milk with carnation packets for added calories. That's been his diet since he turned a year old, but then he decided about a month ago that he didn't want to eat any solid food at all! So, he drinks 3 eight oz. bottles of the milk/carnation each day...that's it! He doesn't snack or anything of that nature...so I guess that's why we're going the G-tube route. He hasn't gained any weight in almost 7 months, but he hasn't lost any at least. He's on nexium right now for reflux, but he hasn't had any reflux problems in a long time! He does have a significant delay in his gastric emptying though...which might add to it as well. Thanks for sharing and I hope things get a little better for you guys soon!
