CF centers in Missouri
May 31, 2011 at 10:46 AM

My daughter just turned 17 and moving to Branson Mo area. I need some info about some CF clinics and which ones are the best, which ones to stay away from....also, should she go ahead and transition to an adult clinic? She is finishing her senior year there and then will be going to college so she will be there awhile...also, do any of them have "satellite clinics"? Like maybe in Springfield or something???? Thanks for your help!!! Of course only want the best for my baby!!! ha

Ok. So the University in Columbia does Peds and Adult clinics in Springfield but only once a month (I think she said like the second Wednesday of each month but not positive on that). The first clinic and anytime she would need to be seen other than a scheduled clinic visit she would need to go to Columbia. Also, if she were be admitted to the hospital she would be admitted in Columbia as they are not "affiated" with the hospitals down south. Hope that helps.

Since your daughter is 17 and having to change clinics, I would recommend going to the adult clinic instead of starting with a peds clinic and then having to transition once again. It takes a while to get to know your health care team and she would only just get in the door before it would be time to transfer to the adult program.

Missouri basically only has 3 clinics, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Columbia. But Columbia has Satellite Clinics at Southeast Missouri Hospital -- Outreach Clinic
Cape Girardeau, MO 63701
and
St. John's Speciality Clinic -- Outreach Clinic
Springfield, MO 65804
Contact Coordinator for Outreach Clinics is Connie Fenton, R.N., B.S.N. phone #(573) 882-6978.

I am really new to CF so I don't have any advice on best or ones to avoid. I think I have seen older patients on here from KC and St. Louis Clinics but haven't ran into many that work with Columbia's group yet. We have worked with Connie some but since I am so new to all of this I don't really know how to "evaluate" the clinic yet. She/they seem to do fine but I don't know if I should be expecting more/less etc.

Good luck!
